Hubby and I attended the 3rd Parent-Teacher-Fellowship at my daughter’s school this afternoon. I always see to it that I attend this meeting because this is my chance to know my daughter’s behavior and performance in school. This is the time I could talk to her supervisor (this is how they call their teachers in school) about her attitude in school and if there are problems which need to be addressed. I am less concern of the grades since I get the updates every week through their Congratulations slip.

According to her supervisor, Sciezka can read well and has a good comprehension. She could finish her readings fast. She particularly fast with Science. Her problem is writing the d and b for the English subject. She sometimes interchanged these two letters. Aside from this, she’s doing well. Her supervisor is confident that she can finish the remaining PACES for the Learn To Read curriculum. So by next year, at the age of 5, she can be enrolled to Level 1 (Grade 1).

My daughter’s performance is not really exemplary. But I am happy that she’s coping up with the Learn To Read level {she’s supposed to be in Reading Readiness level only for her age}. For me that is enough for now. I don’t want to put so much pressure on her for now {maybe in the future, LOL}. I want her to enjoy learning without snatching her childhood days from her.

Daughter didn’t believe me at first and insisted that she has a PACE Test today and that their school service would fetch her. I let her read her teacher’s message and she finally conceded.

After she changed her uniform, she asked if she could play with her bike. I agreed but with the condition that she finished first the assignments given by her teacher in the text. As usual, she argued but Mommy is more determined than her ^__^. So she did her assignments first before she played.

After two days of being absent from school, daughter was able to report back to her class this morning. She was absent from school last Wednesday and Thursday due to colds and cough.

After few months of colds and cough-free, her enemy hit her again last Monday. It was still mild last Monday and she even managed to go to school last Tuesday and took her PACE test (without our knowledge). But when she got home, I noticed that she seemed so weak. She immediately lay down on the bed after she took off her shoes. She didn’t eat her snack and I learned from her teacher that she was not in the mood to work and just wanted to sleep in her office. She breathed fast and she coughed continuously (a sign that she is having asthma). She still has no fever but her body temperature was a bit higher than the usual. To ease her breathing, I nebulized her. Immediately after, she fell asleep.

She was down the whole Tuesday. She complained that she felt dizzy and wanted to throw up. I convinced her to eat even a little so she could take her medicine. Then she went back to bed after I administered her cough medicine. When she tried to stand up to play with the baby on the compound, she only made few steps and returned immediately to bed. She threw up few minutes after. But after she threw up, she looked better. She already ate dinner with us. Since that night, she seemed to get better. But just to make sure that her cough would not get worse, we just asked her to stay at home for two days.

For me, this is a great improvement. Although she could not still go on like normal days when she has cough, but at least, it does not last long. But I am still praying that time will come that a simple cough could not bring her down, that her body could finally overcome her asthma.

Since daughter started reporting to school, she can only watch her favorite videos during Friday. She was not allowed to turn on the TV on other days. This is a strict instruction to us, parents, by the school administrator to help the child focus on his/her studies. So during Friday, as soon as she gets home, she would immediately ask permission to turn on the TV and DVD player and play the DVD she wanted to watch. I also allowed her to play online games using my desktop since we don’t have a blackberry playbook :p.

I think she will still be sharing desktop with me for more years to come because I have no intention to buy her own playbook or game gadget.

Many of my friends were asking if it is raining here in Bohol because according to them it has been raining in Manila for several days already. It rains on some days but it is normal here. Generally, the weather here in Bohol for the last few days is good. It is even warm that an a/c unit is more appropriate than an infrared heater. Speaking of a/c, I remember that I need to remind hubby to start buying the electrical supplies needed to make our a/c operational. I noticed that our electric fan is not enough to keep my daughter dry from sweat when she takes her nap and even during her night sleep.

Daughter has no class yesterday since Malacañang declared June 20, 2011 as a national holiday. Thus hubby and I decided to bring my daughter to a pedia for her second shot of Hepa – A vaccine. Our Pastor’s wife recommended a pediatrician who is a brother of a pastor. Since we don’t know any pediatrician here, we considered it a blessing that someone recommended a pediatrician to us. At least we can look for a specific name in the hospital’s directory.

Our Pastor’s wife knows the clinic of the pediatrician but not the clinic hours. Since I still have some tasks to do in the morning, we decided to leave during lunch time. We arrived on the hospital where the pediatrician has a clinic and easily found it. We asked the secretary about the doctor’s clinic hours and we were happy to find out that he has a clinic yesterday, from 1 pm to 3pm. It was pass 1pm already but according to the secretary, the doctor was still on his way to the clinic. We were just on time, hubby and I thought. We need not to wait for long. We were already happy that the pedia was coming today {despite the hostile look of the secretary. She even tried to push us to other doctor. It seems that she was not happy to have patients } because it meant that our travel going to the downtown was not wasted.

Going back to our home few hours earlier, I’ve talked to my daughter that we were about to see a doctor because she needed an injection. Ever since she realized that injections incurred pain, she got afraid of seeing a doctor. She gets hysterical just merely realizing that we are heading to her former pedia’s clinic. So I’ve explained to her that she needs the injection so she will not get sick. I also told her that getting sick is harder and painful than the injection. I promised her that I’ll treat to Jollibee if she agreed to have the injection and didn’t cry. She bargained that she wanted pizza instead of Jollibee and she would cry but only for a while. I agreed to her bargain.

The doctor arrived few minutes before three. He was exactly opposite of his secretary. When he saw us waiting outside his clinic he smiled and greeted us. We decided to wait outside his clinic {along the hospital aisle} because there were older patients inside the clinic who seemed to be sick. He shares clinic with another neuro-doctor. Daughter was persuading us to wait inside because the clinic was air-conditioned and the aisle was not. But we don’t want to take the risk that daughter might get infected of the other’s illnesses.

When our turn finally came, daughter was interviewed by the doctor. She was even asked if she knew why she was in the clinic. Daughter answered yes. She was asked if she was afraid and she answered no. But when she saw that the doctor started preparing the injection to be used and positioned it on her arm, she started wriggling. So hubby and I firmed her arm. She was really afraid of the injection. But when the needle was injected to her, she no longer moved until the all vaccine was consumed on her arm. Surprisingly, she didn’t even cry! And as promised, we headed to Greenwich for pizza.

When we got home last Saturday from Divisoria, my daughter was taking her nap. I parked her new bag beside the door of our room, just enough for her to see part of it even if she was lying down on the bed. As expected, she excitedly got up from bed as soon as she saw the bag. She checked the bag and asked me if it was for her. She was delighted. I handed her the umbrella and she was so happy. Then she paused for a while and asked me about her princess bike. I answered her that she just continue praying for it. I told her that she should pray to God to bless Mommy and Daddy so we can buy her a bike. She also asked me where were the bag and umbrella came from. I told her I bought them from Divisoria. So when the helper of the landlady asked the same question to her few minutes later, she answered Soria. And when she was asked about her bike, she answered, “Pray pa”.

She’s been praying for four things; Princess Bike, Boots, Dora Umbrella and Princess Trolley Bag. She started praying for those things when she asked me to buy them for her. I told her to pray for it. When she prayed, instead of asking God, I usually heard her thanking God. Every Sunday, during the invitation, she would kneel on the stairs of the church altar for a while. After that, she would whisper to me that she’s done praying.

When her request had been granted, I asked her to thank God because those things were from the Lord. She immediately obeyed me and also thank God the remaining requests. I want to instill in her mind that everything comes from the Lord and He should be given the sincerest thanks.

It has been a long time battle with my daughter weaning her off her bottle. Unlike with her potty training which she immediately embraced, leaving her bottles behind is just too much for her. She is more than three years of age and whether she likes it or not, she needs to give up her bottles soon.

I want her to stop drinking milk from her bottles but I not from drinking milk. I want her to continuously drinks her milk until she’s grown up because milk is important for the body. My dilemma is if I take away the bottles forcefully, she might also stop drinking milk. This is the usual experience of the other mommies I’ve asked. So what I’m praying is that she’ll voluntarily give up her bottles. I also grab every opportunity which I can use to persuade her leave the bottles and use cups or mugs instead. When we went to Daiso, a Japanese store, one time, she eyed a fancy mug. She asked me to buy it for her. I told her that I can buy the mug but she should use the mug for her milk instead of the bottle. She agreed. But she immediately returned to her bottles after two tries. Needless to say, the first attempt was a failure.

Couple of days ago, I started another attempt. My husband and I were planning to switch her milk to another brand. But we need to know if she will like the prospective brand, so we only bought a sampler size. When she saw that I was getting another milk, she told me that she wanted it. So I told her, “Okay we will buy this, but you have to throw away your bottles and drink this milk from your mug.” She agreed again. That night, my husband and I asked her to throw her bottles. We handed to him a clean but used plastic bag and her bottles. We let her be the one to put the bottles in the plastic bag Then, I tied the plastic bag and let her saw that I put it in the waste bin. That night, she also drank her milk from the mug.

The next day, she was looking for her bottles. I reminded her that she threw them the night before. She checked the waste bin and found it clean. Hubby woke up earlier and cleaned the mess She’s drinking her milk from her mug for two days now. The frequency of her milk intake decrease but she is compensating it with eating solid foods. I do not also allow her to go bed without drinking her milk. If she don’t want to drink it directly from the mug, I just spoon it for her. It is too early to say that we win the battle this time but too early too to say it is another failure.

Do you have the same battle? How did you win the battle? Let your victory be heard.

My daughter won’t surely love it when she learns that we are about to visit her pedia for her scheduled immunization. The last time we visited her pedia for checkup, she was crying hysterically because she thought she would have an injection. But she was still poked with a needle because a blood sample was extracted from her to test. For her, the clinic is a NO NO place. And because her memory is good, we can’t bring her inside the clinic without any struggle. No bluffs and persuasion can conquer her fear. After this, there is still one remaining injection that she needs to bear. My mind is already occupied of alternatives and ways how to deal with her later. Hence, I could no longer concentrate on the apidexin reviews I’m reading. I will just set aside my reading first and start preparing for our pedia visit.
