Asthma strikes again!

Daughter is sick again. It wasn’t very long when she had coughs and now she’s knocked-out with another bout of coughs, fever and asthma.

Her coughs and asthma started last Saturday. Thanks to MERALCO for the eight hours of power outage after announcing to he  news programs that there will be no more scheduled two to three hours of brown-outs until June because the supply of electricity is enough within the metro. True to their words, no more scheduled two to three hours brown-out because the brown out is no longer scheduled and not just three hours but eight hours! Because of the brown-out, from eight in the morning until four in the afternoon, we were not able to nebulize Ezka which aggravated her cough.

She had thrown up six times since Sunday morning because of phlegm but her condition did not get better the whole day. We were not able to attend church yesterday because she’s irritated and crying the whole time. I was afraid that she would disturb the worship service. And leaving the house might just worsen her condition.

Her last thrown up last night, allowed her to have better breathing and longer sleep interval between coughs. I’m hoping and continuously praying that her condition will continue to get better so we don’t need to bring her to the hospital, a place where I dreaded to step on.

Early evening yesterday, I was already planning to bring her to the hospital where my coupled neighbors are both resident nurses. I already inquired if there are consultants available even on Sundays. I was advised to observe my daughter’s condition the whole night and to administer a Paracetamol every four hours. If there will be no improvement, we can rush Ezka directly to the ER this morning. The husband nurse will on be duty today and can assist us and refer us to the chief pediatrician on-duty.

We brought Eza this morning to the hospital and her blood was examined. Praise and thanks be unto God because it is just viral. No need for antibiotic. We need to continue administering Lagundi and Paracematol. She is for follow-up on Thursday.

Ezka’s condition is getting better by God’s grace. I am hoping and praying that she’ll be completely okay before Thursday so we don’t need to go back. I really hate hospitals hehehe…

Weight Loss Update

scaleI am happy because my weight-loss efforts already gained some fruits. I’ve already lost 1.6kg. Yipeee!  This is the first time that I’ve lost some pounds since I give birth. And because my effort to control my rice intake is not in vain, I decided to continue my eating habit. I will only eat rice in the morning and just supplement it with veggies, fish and fruits on the other meals. I also tried to eat boiled banana the whole day but I didn’t work for me.  But I felt so starved. So I didn’t do it again. I really need rice at least once a day.

I also include non-fat milk and yogurt on my diet. I buy the plain yogurt and just add some sliced of fruit. The best combination I have tried so far is yogurt and ripe mango, so yuuummmy! Good thing, ripe mango is cheap nowadays. Sometimes, this served as my dinner or lunch.

Well, some tangible fruits on this weight loss endeavor makes me happy and encourage to go on.  Are you also on the same flight as I am? Have more effective way to shred fats? Let me know and share your results too ;)

2010 First Dental Visit

I had my teeth cleaned last Saturday at Clinica Dental Manila  and had my last molar on the right restored by composite filling. The check-up and procedure were both covered by our health card but I need to add a few hundreds for the base  filling since the damaged part was quite deep already. The molar restored had an old filing which was removed and replaced by new filling because it was the only tooth that ached after my last visit. Dra. Gina (yay, I forgot her surname :D ), who was the same dentist attended to me last June 2009, told me that she only tried to restore the molar. But if the molar aches again, I might need to have a  panoramic x-ray to make sure that it is not the missing wisdom tooth causing the pain. Once confirmed, I might undergo a root canal procedure. This means that the molar can no longer be saved.

While my molar was being filled, my daughter peeked on the dentist’s room then hysterically cried while calling me. She thought that the dentist was hurting me. My husband immediately carried her away from the door and gave her some kiddie books available on the clinic. When I went out of the dentist’s office, she was beaming to see me and asked me “Tapos na?”.  And I answered her, “Yes, anak. Tapos na po”.  She hugged me and kissed me as if we didn’t see each other for long time.  I requested the dentist if her teeth already needs a cleaning and the dentist told me that her teeth were still good.

I will  have another appointment with her for the composite filling of another molar.  I am taking advantage of  dental coverage of our health card before it expired on June. I am still eligible for one more surface filling and I intend to avail it before our health card is renewed.

Weight Loss Update

I realized that losing weight is no joke at all. It has been two weeks since I started to reduce my rice intake  but until now I don’t still see any development.  My weight does not show decrease but at least it does not show any increase either, yey! My office mate told me that the effect of the weight loss diet will reflect on the third week, that is the earliest. How true?

I hope that I can already make it a habit to skip rice on dinner and eventually make it a lifestyle. I learned from one of my readings that as a person gets older,  his/her  body needs less food and more exercise to maintain a healthy body.  So I might as well, start it now.

I will wait until the third week and if there is still no improvement, I might just eat rice to my heart’s content! Getting impatient eh?!! Just kidding. I am thinking to try the banana diet – banana for breakfast, banana for lunch and banana for dinner. I try to be like  Boots the Monkey  for a while. What do you think? Will it be effective?

A Colorful Dinner

I literally had a colorful dinner; green, red, orange and a shade of yellow because I had a veggie salad for dinner. Daughter even eat few pieces with me :)

VeggieSaladplease forgive the resolution of the images for they were only taken using a phone camera

As  I mentioned on my previous post, I joined our company’s biggest loser contest and badly needed to shred ample amount of fats off my body. Since Monday, I tried my best not to eat rice during dinner.  I also tried my best to drink lots of water which helps me feel full everytime.  I will try to follow Mommy Sam’s advice to limit the intake of rice. I also learned that cold water speed ups metabolism especially if taken in the morning.

I do not intend to win on the contest but I intend to lose significant kilos for my own good.
