Marriage & Election

wedding-ringsDid it ever occur to your mind that marriage and election are similar in some way? It did to me and funny because I realized it when I was on a bus going home. Probably because,  along the way are the never ending political propagandas on the road. So below are my humble observations between marriage and election. I hope you enjoy reading them :)

To win a woman’s love, a man needs to court her. Courting includes, gifts, flowery words, visitations, treats, promises, and other things that will make a woman fall in love with the man.

To win a voter’s vote, a candidate under go rigid courting er campaign – campaign give-a-ways, banners, promises of impossible things, proposals, entertainment and the worst persuasion is bribery.

When the woman finally choose her lifetime partner and agree to tie the knot, that decision becomes permanent. Each party will utter their vow to each other.  Ideally, only death will end the vow of marriage. But in reality, many marriages are put asunder by many excuses reasons.

When the voter finally votes for her/his candidate, during election day, that vote is permanent. If the bet of the voter wins,  the winner will  recite her/his oath. He/she becomes a public official. Ideally, an official will exploit serve the country in a pre-defined period. But in some cases, there are officials who are removed from their post earlier.

After tying the knot, the woman and the man will live as husband and wife. Since they live together, they will discover their differences and the flaws of each party. The woman will also know if the promises of the man during the courtship stage will materialize. Reality will definitely come out. Whether the reality is better or worst, it can no longer be hidden. Unfortunately, in marriage, there is no turning back. Either it is life long bliss or a life long suffering because marriage has no expiration, especially in Philippines countries where divorce is not an option.

Once the official assumed his/her post, reality starts. The voters will see if the promises of the official will materialize, if the politician is true to his/her word or simply deceived the voters just to be in the position and to gain power. Whether the reality is better or worst, it can no longer be hidden. It will surely come out. And it is hard to remove a wo/man in power. So it is either a progressive or corrupt and suffering years with the official. Good thing, the official will only stay in the position for so-years. If he/she kept his promise, he/she might win again on the next election (except for the president which has no option to run again as president). If he/she only deceived the people, there is still a chance to win again, by another deception and cheating. But whether that official lose or win on the next election, that official has already affected the lives of the Filipinos, either for good or for worst.

So what am I saying? The process of selecting our partner in life applies with selecting our next public officials. While we still have an option to choose, let us open our two eyes to see the faults and goodness of the candidates. Let us check if the goodness outweighs the faults. Let us not settle for less evil instead let us go for the best wo/man for the position. Once we have decided our partner in life and public officials are proclaimed, let us close our one eye so we could no longer see the little faults in them. As a woman, we are under the authority of our husband. As a citizen of the Philippines, we ought to obey our government leader because God put them in their positions to rule over us.

We still have few more days to scrutinize our favored candidates. Let us not be blinded by the short-term benefits they offer nor by their popularity, nor by their affiliations. Instead let us ask God to bestow us wisdom to choose the candidates that God wants us to vote. Let us commit unto God our choice and let God guides our hands as we cast our votes on Monday. God Bless Philippines.

Political Campaign

As we get near to the May 10 election,  politicians are exerting more efforts to imprint their names on the minds of many Filipinos to ensure that during  the election day,  they will not be forgotten.  Those politicians who have money to spend use repetitive tv add campaigns with jingles that even the little ones in the house could memorize.  While others who can’t afford the tv ad fees settled for less expensive promotional products like ballpens, ball caps, shirts, and the most common one are the traditional fans made of board. But what I like best is the baller bracelet in the color associated with the politician. It will be colorful if I’ll be able to  get one from each political candidate,  LOL!

I don’t find anything wrong with these  promotional products but I am hoping that Filipinos will not vote  political candidates just because they received something from them. I am raising my expectation that Filipinos are wiser now  than the previous elections.

Maguindanao Massacre

My heart bled when I heard the news about the heinous massacre happened yesterday in Maguindanao :( As of this writing, 40 dead bodies were already retrieved according to the news. An it is very unacceptable that the reason behind this killings is merely politics. According to the news, authorities believed that this crime is well-planned because of the equipment used to dig the land where the bodies were buried. Many innocent journalists and members of media industry were also killed in this crime together with the politician who will supposedly file her and her brother’s COC. Four of the policemen in Maguindanao were immediately suspended because police authorities suspected that they were involved in this crime.

This is a very early election-related crime. The involvement of some authorities are very disappointing and alarming for citizens like me because the people who supposedly protect our rights and life were the ones involved. Sad because politics in our country is not getting better instead, its getting worst! More disappointing because there are people who do not value life, the life which is not owned by anyone but God. I firmly believed that whatever the reason maybe, no man should get back life, even their own lives, much more other man’s life. Only God can get back our lives because He is the giver of it.

The number of election-related crimes will undoubtedly increase as the election day gets nearer. And this reflects that more and more politicians are resorting to “dirty tricks” just to gain power, wealth and fame. I can’t help, but be reminded of how Satan tempted Jesus Christ when Jesus was in the wilderness. Isn’t these were the three things that Satan offer to Jesus but Jesus victoriously refused? And until now, Satan’s offer didn’t changed! These are still the things he is offering to man to take man away from God. Many are being deceived. The Bible’s advise is to be sober, be vigilant because our adversary, the devil, like a roaring lion, seeking about whom he may devour. Let us not fall into the devil’s wiles.

Clarification From Malacañang

Malacañang retracted their first statement that July 27 is a non-working holiday in celebration of INC day. You can check the link shared by Mommy Chris for more details. July 27 is a working holiday according to Malacañang. Was it an honest mistake?

Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against INC members personally. What I am really after at is the reason behind. We have so many holidays actually and I will be a hypocrite if I will tell you that I do not enjoy them. Of course, holiday is another whole day for me to bond with my daughter and be with my husband mentally and physically. Aside from that, I will still be paid though I don’t need to work. For others who are required to report to work during holidays, they will have additional pay. But how about those who are belongs to the no-work-no-pay group? Will they be also happy on this kind of adhoc holidays? I don’t think so.

Holiday (non-working) is good and I surely love it for personal reasons but I don’t think it is acceptable to use it as bribe for more votes. Let us be wise like a serpent but harmless as a dove. Let us not be deceived by delectable gourmet that will poison our bodies and mind.
