Second Song Offering

This is the second time my daughter went up to our church stage to render a song offering. Her first offering was a duet and we were not video-prepared. Her second offering was a trio. We were still not video-prepared. Good thing, my husband didn’t left his cp at home which he usually do during Sunday. So he was able to video the song offering. The trio was composed of Drhayen Lapid, Jyma Sciezka – my daughter and Rea Crisel. They sung God Is So Good, Jesus Loves Me and Read Your Bible. My daughter was in the middle. Listen to their song and be blessed.

The video was taken last Sunday, May 16, 2010 during our evening worship service.

Post-Christmas Post

~~Two more days and the world will be celebrating Christmas~~.Two days ago, the world celebrated Christmas. I remembered that when this season comes, we usually review the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ (Did I not mention that I grew up in Sunday School?) in our Sunday School classes. And when I became a Sunday School teacher too, I taught the same topic whenever the month of December comes. Why? Because this is the best time to remember how Christ was born and for what purpose

Let me share with you two things about the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. And I sincerely hope that this post bring some enlightenment to all of us.

THE DATE OF THE BIRTH OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST
In the Bible, the exact date of Christ’s birth was not stated. You may want to check Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 2: 1-16 – These are the references in the Bible where you can read about the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. And probably, Christ was not born on a December, much more on a December 25. Because Luke 2:8 says “And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.”(KJV) During December, Jerusalem’s temperature does not even reach 20⁰C. Would the shepherds bring their flocks out in the field in that temperature? Would it not be much appropriate to bring the flock in the field if the weather is warmer even in the night and not during the cold season?

How come the Bible did not record the date of Christ’s birth? The birth date of the most important being in the whole world? Was it just accidentally forgotten? Definitely, the answer is NO. It was not recorded intentionally. Why? Because the date is immaterial and what is important is the fact that Christ was born to save the lost sinners like me. He do not want His birth date to be remembered or celebrated but the world is persistent. They created a date for His birth. The Lord Jesus Christ knew that when the date of His birth is published, the focus of the people will be on the date and the occasion and not on the purpose of His coming. And if you haven’t realized yet that Christ birth and death is for you, for us – to save us from eternal damnation, then His birth and death is in vain in your life.

THE THREE KINGS
THREE KINGS is no where to be found in the Bible, moreover, the names Melchor, Gaspar and Balthasar. You can only find wise men, no names and no specific number. Yes, there are three kinds of gifts given – Gold, Frankincense, Myrrh – but it was only an assumption that each kind of gift came from a single person. There is no account in the Bible that it was so. Isn’t the same kind of gift can be given by different people? How many photo frames you received this holiday? Were they given by the same person? Definitely not, right? The wise men maybe three, or maybe six or hundreds. No one knows because the number is not important. The important thing is gifts are given to the Lord of Lords and King of Kings to honor and glorify Him. The wise men didn’t exchange gifts to themselves. There was only one recipient of the gifts and that is the Lord Jesus Christ.

This scene is very far from what we practice today, we do not give the gifts to the “birthday celebrant/celebrator” instead we exchange gifts within ourselves. True? Sad, but this is true. This is how the world (the Enemy) deviate our focus from our Savior to ourselves. We merry(Is this the reason why we greet Merry Christmas) by attending parties, eating sumptuous food, exchanging gifts and buying gifts for ourselves. But how about our the Lord Jesus Christ, what is the present we bought for Him? Did we remember to thank Him for coming to this sinful world to save us? Do you know that He offers the best gift for us? An everlasting life. We only need to accept it

The birth of Christ is as important as His death. If one is missing, no one has a chance to be in paradise someday.

To end this post, let me leave you a very familiar verse. John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Maguindanao Massacre

My heart bled when I heard the news about the heinous massacre happened yesterday in Maguindanao As of this writing, 40 dead bodies were already retrieved according to the news. An it is very unacceptable that the reason behind this killings is merely politics. According to the news, authorities believed that this crime is well-planned because of the equipment used to dig the land where the bodies were buried. Many innocent journalists and members of media industry were also killed in this crime together with the politician who will supposedly file her and her brother’s COC. Four of the policemen in Maguindanao were immediately suspended because police authorities suspected that they were involved in this crime.

This is a very early election-related crime. The involvement of some authorities are very disappointing and alarming for citizens like me because the people who supposedly protect our rights and life were the ones involved. Sad because politics in our country is not getting better instead, its getting worst! More disappointing because there are people who do not value life, the life which is not owned by anyone but God. I firmly believed that whatever the reason maybe, no man should get back life, even their own lives, much more other man’s life. Only God can get back our lives because He is the giver of it.

The number of election-related crimes will undoubtedly increase as the election day gets nearer. And this reflects that more and more politicians are resorting to “dirty tricks” just to gain power, wealth and fame. I can’t help, but be reminded of how Satan tempted Jesus Christ when Jesus was in the wilderness. Isn’t these were the three things that Satan offer to Jesus but Jesus victoriously refused? And until now, Satan’s offer didn’t changed! These are still the things he is offering to man to take man away from God. Many are being deceived. The Bible’s advise is to be sober, be vigilant because our adversary, the devil, like a roaring lion, seeking about whom he may devour. Let us not fall into the devil’s wiles.

Bible Research 2009: Christian’s Guide to Finding God’s Will

One of the major and most awaited summer activities in our church is the Bible Research. This year’s Bible Research started last Tuesday, May 19, 2009 @ 5:30 PM and it end on tomorrow, May 22. This year’s theme is Christian’s Guide to Finding God’s Will. Since it started, I have received many spiritual blessings. I am a bit regretful that I didn’t learned these lessons before. But God is the god of second chance. He is very gracious to give us another chance if we commit mistake. But we must not abuse it because as a loving Father, He will definitely correct us and correction is most of the time painful.

Please allow me to share some of the lessons I’ve learned and my sincere desire is that you will also be blessed.

God’s will is God’s wisdom ordering the events of a human life by God’s omnipotence for God’s dual purpose: 1. Personal sanctification of the individual 2. Fulfilling His appointed ministry and service in the life of the people of God.

What is God’s wisdom?

“What does the Bible mean when it calls God wise? In Scripture, wisdom is a moral as well as an intellectual quality, more than mere intelligence or knowledge, just as it is more than mere cleverness or cunning….Wisdom is the power to see, and the inclination to choose, the best and highest goal, together with the surest means of attaining it.
Wisdom is, in fact, the practical side of moral goodness. As such, it is found in its fullness only in God. He alone is naturally and entirely and invariably wise.” (Packer, Knowing God)

God’s omnipotence
“…God the Father Almighty… It points to the basic Bible fact that God is the Lord, the King, the omnipotent one who reigns over his world.
Does omnipotence mean that God can do literally anything? No, that is not the meaning, There are many things God cannot do. He cannot do what is self-contradictory, or non-sensical. Nor canhe act out of character. God has a perfect moral character and it is not in him to deny it. He cannot be capricious, unloving, random, unjust, or inconsistent. Just as he cannot pardon sin without atonement, because that would not be right… The positive way to say this is that though there are things which a holy, rational God is incapable of intending, ALL THAT HE INTENDS TO DO, HE ACTUALLY DOES.” (Packer, Growing in Christ)

So in this world, nothing is an accident and God does not do anything without a purpose and He reveals His will to us.

The Challenge is “Can I trust God that His will is the Best Plan for My Life?” Can you?
