Going Back To My Old Desktop

I had to go back to my old desktop last night. My laptop is okay but its OS (Windows 7 Home Premium) does not support the Internet Information Services (IIS) authentication I need :( But it is still a blessing because I already finished reconfiguring my desktop weeks ago. It is now running using Windows 7 Professional – courtesy of my boss.

Now, I am planning to use my desktop for my work permanently. I will just use my laptop as backup in case my desktop fails. But if I can avail of another free license of Windows 7 Professional (hopefully) and my laptop is no longer covered within the warranty period, I might reconfigure it again *wink* to suit my development needs.

Additional Source of Income

My other site, Story Of A Woman, will start accepting paid post opportunities. The blog got the approval of the aloof Sheriff last Friday. The income that will be generated from that blog will help me complete the monthly budget I need to support my parents’ expenses. Though, it will not be that big, it will somehow lessen entire amount. Right now, every single cent is important and I’ll grab every opportunity to earn additional income.  I will also open this blog, Online Mommy’s Corner, for other online opportunities like hosting, blog reviews, services like installation of plug-ins and widgets and the like. I will post another article for this including the corresponding fees.

No Internet Connection

My internet connection went out last night, just before six o’clock. The tie of the antenna to the pipe gave up but though the antenna didn’t fell on the ground, it was misaligned. Hubby tried to return the antenna to its original position but unsuccessful to get the internet connection back. I called up SMARTBro’s Hotline and was able to get a schedule for tech support visit. But guess when? According to the CSR, the earliest available date is still on the 14th, that is eight days from now. Whew! I have to wait that long just to get my internet connection back. Efficient huh?! This is a red light for me because my work revolves around the computer and internet connection. I have to report to our office everyday to get my tasks done. Tedious and expensive, right? And of course, it is too uncomfortable to travel everyday because of the heat of the sun. Imagine, even inside an FX, I am sweating all over because the air-condition of the vehicle is enough to overpower the heat outside. And on my way home, I’ll be inhaling the polluted air for almost an hour. Terrible! I might die in just a week of having no internet connection. It is exaggerated, I know but thinking of going to the office everyday is really dreadful for me. Aside from that, I’ll have so little time to update my blog and to visit other blogs. I have to call the Hotline again tomorrow to check if there is any chance to get my schedule earlier.

Non-Working Holiday On May 3, 2010

Why? Because the observance of Labor Day is moved on Monday, May 3, 2010.

I mentioned on this post that May 1 is usually a holiday if it falls on a weekday. In this year’s case, May 1 is Saturday so I don’t expect to have an extra  day off  for this holiday. But because of the generosity of the government with holidays and the current holiday economic policy, the celebration of Labor Day is moved to May 3, 2010, Monday next week. This means that Monday will be a non-working holiday! Another long weekend coming!!! Hurray for laborers like me!

Food Trip

The latest regular activity that I look forward to whenever I report to our  office is the girls food trip. On our way home, me and the other girls in the office, pass through St. Francis Square where many food kiosks can be found.  Some of the foods serve in the kiosks include  siomai,  hongkong noodles, hotdog,  takoyaki (veggie ball),  sisig, and many more! . Our favorite stops are in  takoyaki  and the siomai stand.  While we are eating, we usually talk with the attendants about the business.  And we realized that the attendants of the siomai stand are also the owners, a father and son.  The son is  on his early teens,  I supposed,  but he’s  already exposed on running  a business.  And instead of wasting his time on unimportant things, he helps his dad earn.

Owning and running a business is a lot better than being an employee, how small the business maybe.  And the father’s decision to franchise a siomai stand and to place it in a well-populatedarea  is a wise decision.  But it is a wiser move  if he also  avail  a business insurance for their business  as a protection for their investment.
