Back-To-School Project 2013

Back To SchoolI launched this year’s Back-To-School Project last Monday here. If you are one of those who took part to make this project a success last year, I invite you once again to partner with me to make this project a success this year. If you missed the chance to be a part of this worthwhile endeavor, allow me invite you to be involved  for this year and be a channel of blessing to some kids here in Panglao Bohol.

This project aims to raise fund for two purposes: First is to distribute school supplies to elementary students this June. Second is to support the 5 upcoming 7th graders continue their secondary education. In line with this, I am praying for kind-hearted people  who can partner with me on monthly basis to support the daily transportation and allowances of these five highschoolers.

The amount is totally up to you. P100s or P50s are very much welcome and appreciated. Please don’t feel embarrassed if you think that the amount you can help is small. Remember that those “small amounts” can be BIG if together for the same purpose. You may also share this to your friends and love ones. They too may have that desire to help.

You may send your donations via PayPal (mylenerabago(at)gmail(dot)com) or through bank deposits. But please let me know the amount and the date you transferred/deposited so I can properly account it.

Ain’t An Animal Lover

Honestly, I am not fond of pets. I find them cute when I see them on a pet store or with other people but I had never desire to keep one for myself. In other words I am not an animal lover. But I don’t hate them either and I don’t harm them.

My husband and my daughter are the ones who love to keep a pet. Currently, we have two dogs. They were given to us. Both are called Askals. They have no breed. Since we don’t have dog houses for them and the church compound is not fenced, they are free to roam around the compound and the neighborhood. But unfortunately, we have a neighbor who hates one of the dogs. Often times, they pour hot water on the poor dog. We will only realize it when the dog goes home with burned skin. Since Husband does not want to tie the dogs, I guess a wireless fencing for dogs is a good alternative to prevent the dogs from going out the church compound.

As I said I am not an animal lover but I don’t think it is fair that a man hurt an animal without unless it becomes a threat to his own life. My daughter is asking for rabbits but I am not yet convinced that she should have them now. I think we should prepare for their home first.

Guitar Center

Guitar Center is on online store of musical instruments and accessories. It has a wide collection of instruments and accessories from different makers and brands. You will find the site very user-friendly. It has a search filter on the left panel to make your product search easier. Each product has rating from previous buyers to help the prospective buyers select the best product. There are also customer reviews which increase the buying power of the users. So for example you are looking for cool hosa cables, the Guitar Center site will display all the Hosa Music Accessories. You may want to sort it according to best seller or best rating to help you decide faster.

So if you have any musical instrument need, you may want to check the guitarcenter.com. It will help you find the best product for your need.

MIA

If you are wondering where I have been, I am just here, too busy with other stuff that I could not pay time to update this blog. I’ll still be very busy on the coming days and the busyness will start winding up after the first Sunday of June. I know you are not interested with my schedule but nonetheless, I’ll still share it here :D

Tomorrow, May 23, we will host the Pastors’ Wives Fellowship for the month of May. We are expecting around 80 couples for the attendance. Unlike the previous fellowships in which the participants bring their own provisions, our pastor’s wife is generous enough to treat the pastors’ wives with free lunch. But that means more tasks for us since we will be the one to cook for them. But it is fine because it is very rare that we can treat the pastors’ wives.

On Saturday, I will shop for the school supplies which I plan to distribute on June 2, the graduation day of our Vacation Bible School. The total donation I received for the Back-To-School Project is not that big so the school supplies will also be limited. Nevertheless, I believe the kids and their parents will be very happy when they receive the blessing.

Next Wednesday, May 29, is the start of our Vacation Bible School. It will last until May 31 and we will have our graduation on June 2. While I shop for school supplies, the other kids in the church will follow-up the kids we invited for the VBS. We will have the final workshop on Friday.

May 29 is also my eldest daughter’s 6th birthday. No big celebration as usual. And this time no swimming too since we will be very busy with our VBS. I promised her to cook spaghetti for her and of course I’ll buy her a birthday cake.

Busy schedule right? I’m praying that God will enable me to accomplish all these things without getting sick. The weather is not really cooperating and some of us here in the house have colds and cough. I guess if we are busy doing the Lord’s work, there is someone who is not happy and doing its best to hinder the Lord’s work. But still, greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. So no room for defeat :)

Don’t wonder if I’ll be MIA again in the coming days. I’m just here juggling tasks :)

Clean Air In Provinces?

Many people believe that air in provinces is more fresh and cleaner than the air in the metro. It is true to some extent. The reason is because there are less air-pollutants in the provinces than in the metro. There are fewer black-smoke emitting buses and industries but sad to say there are still. Also, little other people know that in provinces people are used to burning wastes. Panglao is not an exception.

Everyday since we transferred here, there wasn’t a day that I did not smell fumes. There were even days that the whole house was full of smoke coming from our neighbors who burned the dry leaves fell from the trees. Worst is when plastic materials are being burned. The smoke is really intolerable. I could not complaint to the neighbors because it might just cause us trouble and it seems that it has been their practice for so long. But this made wonder if the clean-air act exists in this province.

If you are a mother who has kids with asthma, you will really dream to have a hepa air filtration system which will purify and filter the air. You will also hope that the next set of local government officials are more pro – environment. Unfortunately, I haven’t heard any candidate who has a concrete program for protecting the environment. I will not be surprised if Panglao will be the next to taste the wrath of Mother Nature.

My Summer’s Outdoor Survival Kit

Summer has long started. And this year, it makes sure that it will not pass by unnoticed particularly here in Panglao Bohol. The heat of the sun is unbearable. I could not stand outside for so long during the day time. But of course, for others this is an opportunity for outings and swimming specially that there are no classes.

As much as possible, I stay away from going out during hottest hours of the day which is from 9 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon. But if there are errands that I must do during the said hours, I make sure I have these three things. It supposed to be four but I’m still praying for a good pair of sunglasses to protect my eyes. No, I am not eyeing any of Roberto Cavalli Sunglasses though I find them very fashionable and chic. It’s just that my pocket would not be willing to shed that much for sunglasses.

Lightweight Hoody
I never go out during the day without wearing a lightweight sweatshirt particularly if I have to travel on a motorbike. This protects my arm and nape from the direct heat of the sun. I also use the hood to cover my head.

Sunblock
I only apply it on my face since my arms are already covered.

Water
I never go out without a bottle of water to keep me hydrated.

These three (four in the future) are my survival items when conquering the heat of the day outside the house. How about you? What comprises your summer’s outdoor survival kit?
