Mommy Moments – This I Give To You (Pamana)

mommy moments

When I knew the theme for today’s Mommy Moments, I decided to skip again. Because the truth is, neither I nor my husband have any material thing which I can pass to our daughter or to our future son (we are still praying for a son). We both came from a non well-to-do family. If the Lord will enable us to send our kids to college and He will permit them to get a degree, that is the only thing we can give to them. But I realized that though my husband and I lack material things to give to our kids, we still have something to leave them, and that is our faith in God. Though we cannot force them our belief, we can teach them the doctrines of the Bible and we can influence them through our testimonies to follow the same decision we made when we accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal Saviour. I think that is the only and best heritage we can leave them.

So how about you? What is that something that you want to give your kids? Why don’t you hop to The Mommy Journey and play with us.

Month of the Philippine Language : The Presentation

(Buwan ng Wika : Ang Pagtatanghal)
It was my first time to attend a pre-school program and I swear, it was chaotic but really fun! It was hard to understand the way the nursery students delivered their riddles and proverbs but I enjoy watching their dance presentation in the tune and lyrics of May Tatlong Bibi (There are Three Ducks). I realized that kids are kids and their playfulness is uncontrollable at times.

In general the program went well. But I have a little regret because I made the biggest boo boo on my daughter’s costume. I should have just put on her a ladies vest undershirt for her Kimona instead of just wrapping the Saya on her chest. Because as she danced, the Saya slid little by little until it settled on her waist. She could not move freely because she’s trying to hold her Saya and when the Saya reached her waist, she had nothing under her see-through Kimona. Her eyes started to look for me and when she saw me, I gave her a thumbs up to imply that it was okay and she was doing great. She was able to finish her dance gracefully but her teachers told me that she was allot better during their practice. When I was fixing her costume, I assured her that she did great and it was mommy’s fault. The same thing happen when they were singing their finale song, the “Pinakamamahal Kong Bayang Pilipinas (My Most Beloved Country, Philippines)”. I also told her that Mommy learned her lesson and next year, Mommy knew what she should wear. The program ended in a sumptuous lunch. Hubby was already too busy eating so he forgot to take some photos of the food.

It may not be as perfect as it supposed to be but I am happy to witness my daughter’s first school performance. I considered myself privileged because my current  job gives some flexibility in my working hours which allows to be with my daughter in activities like this. I am also happy because despite all the circumstances, the program was a success. I could see that parents enjoined their kids’ presentations and the kids as well had a great time performing.

Here are some photos taken before, during, and after the program. We also have a video of the dance but the size was too big to upload here.

my daughter with her classmates. She’s the one in Yellow Kimona

Sleepyalready sleepy even before the program had started

they were already asked to line up

I almost laugh when my daughter signed to me that she needed a make-up. I didn’t have one so I asked a favor from another mom, if she can put some make-up on my daughter’s face. In time like this, I missed her Ninang Myra who always do the make-up thing. So you see, my daughter is more kikay than her mother.

their dance presentation. It was taken during the beginning of the presentation when her costume was still fine.

their finale song with the rest of her schoolmates

notice that her inner garment is already sliding… but she still managed to imitate the action of her teacher. The show must go on, LOL.

Buwan ng Wika

Better late than never. This is probably the stand of the staff in my daughter’s school. As we Filipinos know, August is the Buwan ng Wika (Month of Language) and many schools celebrated their “Linggo ng Wika” on the 3rd week of August. But not in my daughter’s school :) . They will have it tomorrow and on Friday. So tomorrow will be my daughter’s first participation in a school program. She was asked to memorize three Bugtong (riddles) and one Kawikaan (Proverb). But according to her teacher, the entire class will recite them at the same time. They will also sing Pinakamamahal Kong Bayan. She was also assigned to bring sixty pieces of puto. She will wear kimona and saya with matching bakya.

On Friday, they will have Palarong Filipino. Parents and kids will play. This will be exciting but I am not yet sure If I will still be permitted to report to work late. I already got the approval for tomorrow but haven’t asked permission for Friday yet. Probably, Hubby will join my daughter on Friday.

Iam really excited about it since this will be one of her firsts. I don’t know how she will perform but as long as she goes up the stage, that is enough for me. I just want her to enjoy and I’m sure she will.

Renting

Renting a house is like putting your money in a bag with a hole. This is how I view it as I am also renting a place for my family myself. Month in and month out, part of my salary goes to the apartment rental. If only the money I spend in the rental will be saved, in ten years time, I can already avail a modest housing in a nearby province in cash. But that is not the case. After I give the money to the land lord, I should already forget about that money. I can no longer get any benefit from that money except for another month of temporary shelter for me and my family. But at the end of the day, the ownership of the house still belongs to the landlord. So renting, if I may say so, is not wise. But what are the choices left to a common employee like me?

Another disadvantage of just renting is the limitation of the tenants to renovate and restructure the house. Tenants like me will surely agree that we only have limited power to modify the house. We are not allowed to do major modifications like adding  fixtures and facilities specially if the added facilities we want needs digging or breaking the walls or floors unless you will opt to use Saniflo products like Saniflo toilet. These kind of facilities can easily be installed without breaking the walls or the conventional plumbing system. But other than these facilities, I don’t think it is also wise to invest on fixtures because we cannot bring them when we leave our rented-place.

I am hoping that our government will provide more options to ordinary employee like me to avail affordable yet decent homes. I am hoping that they can offer more rent-to-own houses to us who can’t afford the expensive condos and townhouses of known builders.

1st Periodical Result

The result of my daughter’s first periodical exam came out this morning. She got the Language and Reading perfect, a mistake in Math, 93% in Science and the lowest is Writing which is only 85%.

Her mistake in Math was not  in answering the actual question but on her name. She missed to write the m in Jyma :D .

In Science, most of her mistakes were in following the instruction. Instead of box, she placed the object inside a triangle. Probably, she couldn’t perfectly draw a square yet. But she already had a good understanding of the concepts.

Lastly, she really needs to improve her writing skills.  Her control of a pencil is still poor. But with consistent practice, I believe she can do better next time.

Generally, the result is not exceptional but still satisfactory and I am happy about it. The result of the periodical exam will comprise the 25% of the actual grade in her report card.
